October is LGBTQ+ History Month!

By Macrae Olson 22′

October 1st marks the beginning of LGBTQ+ History Month! Started in 1994, LGBTQ+ history month aims to observe the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queers and the history of related civil rights movements. Along with this October 11th, is International Coming Out Day, celebrating “coming out” as a LBGTQ+ individual.

This month is highly celebrated around Bucknell’s campus and there is a ton to do! The Office of LGBTQ Resources (ELC 302) is giving away “celebrate difference” shirts and is creating a community photo with students wearing the shirts. Be sure to stop by to pick up and shirt and take your photo. Also, join the student community and wear your shirt around campus on Thursday, October 8th to show your support. If you’re away from campus, you can also show your support by posting using the instagram/facebook effect “CelebrateDiff2020”. Be sure to tag @queer_bucknell! As well as this the LGBTQ office is creating a Support List to be posted at a later date. This is a great way to show your support to the Bucknell community. The support list sign up can be found here: https://forms.gle/uwnLrxpAKNVeRRRe6 . Lastly, be sure to follow @queer_bucknell on Instagram to learn more about LGBTQA+ history throughout the month. This is a very important month for the Bucknell community so make sure to show your support!
